Robert van Schalkwyk (Chiropractor)

My Dad who was suffering with continuous headaches first introduced me to Chiropractic. He couldn’t find relief from his headaches and became depressed. A family friend suggested he try Chiropractic and this helped him immensely. It was when I sustained a serious martial arts injury, did I experience the true healing power of Chiropractic. Conventional methods unfortunately could not help my lower back condition which was very debilitating. I was living on a cocktail of pain-relieving medication and I could not walk for more than 20 yards before my lower back locked up and pain shot down my right leg. I was told my only option was surgery which I was not keen for at the age of 17. My Dad suggested I try his Chiropractor. After 3 months of intense care, I was back in the martial arts studio and back on the rugby field. I was able to avoid surgery and I no longer needed pain medication. I felt I had my life back and I was back to my former self. It was at this point  I decided to help others, like I had been helped, and I became a Chiropractor. To this day I receive regular chiropractic care to keep myself functional and active.

Eat better, move better and think better… to good health.

The human DNA or genome has not changed in 10 000 years (Hunter/Gatherer Years) therefore how we moved, ate and lived 10 000 years ago is essentially how we should be moving, eating and living today. What has changed beyond recognition, particularly in the past 100 years, is our environment, mainly from the Industrial revolution to the modern day technology boom. Our modern day environment is therefore not congruent with our genetic make up, resulting in modern day health challenges we commonly see, particularly in the western world. We eat incorrect foods, we are under constant stress, we sit too much, we are changing our posture for the worse, we are becoming more sedentary and we don’t move to our full potential. These are just a few results of living in an incongruent environment.

In-order to successfully care for modern day health challenges we need to live as congruent as possible to the human genome. This is where my passion sits. By helping you move better, eat better and think better, we can help you function better in a modern day environment.

As a Wellness Chiropractor it is my mission to help guide my patients to make the best lifestyle choices, to lead them to a healthy life, allowing them to express their full potential. After all, without your health, what do you have? Seems like a logical question, yet so few of us invest in our own Health.

I am a member of the British Chiropractic Association. I am registered with the General Chiropractic Council (No 00680).”
